Wix dynamic pages explained, and when to use them

If your site has twenty properties, fifty team members or a hundred products, you don’t want to design and update a hundred separate pages. Wix dynamic pages solve this: you design one page, and Wix creates a version of it for every item in a CMS collection.
How it works#
A dynamic setup has three parts:
- A CMS collection that holds the content, like a spreadsheet. Each row is one item, such as a property, and each column is a field, such as title, price, photos or description.
- A dynamic item page: one design with elements connected to the collection’s fields. Wix fills them in for whichever item is being viewed.
- A dynamic list page (optional): a page that shows many items, usually in a repeater, with links to each item page.
When you add a new row to the collection, its page exists straight away. No design work needed.
URLs#
Each item page gets its URL from a field in the collection, for example:
/properties/{title}So an item titled “Lake View Apartment” lives at /properties/lake-view-apartment. You can build the URL from more than one field, such as /properties/{city}/{title}, which helps when titles repeat across cities.
Pick the URL fields carefully before launch. Changing them later changes every item’s address, and you’d need redirects to keep existing links and rankings.
SEO for dynamic pages#
This is where dynamic pages really pay off. In the dynamic page’s SEO settings, you set the title and description once, using field values:
- Title:
{title} in {city} | Studio Name - Description: built from a short summary field
Each item then gets its own title and description automatically. Dynamic item pages are included in your sitemap, so Google can find every item without extra work.
For the best results:
- Give every item real content. A page with only a photo and a price gives Google little to rank.
- Add a dedicated summary field for the meta description instead of cutting off a long description.
- Fill in alt text for images in the collection.
When to use them#
Dynamic pages fit any content where many pages share one layout:
- Products or services with similar details
- Property, car or job listings
- Team members, portfolio projects or case studies
- Locations or branches
- Events, courses or recipes
If each page needs a very different layout, regular pages are simpler.
Going further with Velo#
The built-in setup covers a lot. With Velo you can also add search and filters to a list page (see how to add search and filters to a Wix dynamic page), show related items, hide sections when a field is empty, or load content from an external system.
If you need a catalogue, listings site or directory built on Wix, I do Wix website design and Wix Velo development.
